A Modern Refuge in the Heart of Trento: Where Design Meets Sustainability

Imagine a place where the past and future meet.

A historic building in the heart of Trento comes to life again, transforming into a welcoming space designed for travelers in search of comfort and authenticity. This project is not just a renovation: it is a story of rebirth, technical challenges, and a love for sustainable design. When we were entrusted with the task, the context was clear: an old building, with the ground floor occupied by a family, while the upper two floors were no longer livable. The goal? To rebuild, innovate, and create a unique experience, respecting the roots of the place and facing an important technical challenge: demolish and rebuild without disturbing those living under the same roof.

The rebirth of a building: technology and tradition in harmony

With a clear vision, we rebuilt the two upper floors using an X-LAM supporting structure, a material that combines strength, sustainability, and flexibility. Every detail was carefully considered to create an environment that tells a story:

• Natural materials and cutting-edge insulation: External wooden fiber insulation for impeccable thermal protection and internal hemp fiber insulation for breathability and healthy indoor air quality.
• Dry construction interiors, with raised and insulated hemp fiber floors, a choice that combines sustainability, speed of execution, and flexibility, ideal for a project meant for hospitality.
• Wooden roof with exposed beams, a tribute to alpine tradition, insulated with wood fiber for superior thermal comfort.

The project is not just about creating a building: it’s an experience designed for travelers, for those seeking a modern refuge without giving up the warmth of tradition. Large south-facing windows capture natural light, while shading systems protect from summer heat, ensuring a pleasant coolness. In winter, passive thermal gain minimizes energy consumption.

Technology serving comfort

To offer a top-level welcome, we integrated:

• Controlled mechanical ventilation, for always fresh and healthy air.
• Air-to-air heat pump, powered by a photovoltaic system, for unparalleled energy efficiency.
• Designer fan coils, chosen not only for their performance but also for their aesthetic harmony with the interior spaces.
